Upon the death of his mother in September 2022, King Charles III ascended the British throne as the 40th monarch in history. However, his new role comes with great expectations and challenges, particularly at a time when many question the relevance of a political monarchy in a modern democratic setting. King Charles III must now demonstrate the relevance of the monarchy to his subjects and the world, while also addressing issues such as racism and climate change. In this article, we explore the King’s public and political life, his approach to social and environmental issues, and his past controversies and philanthropic work, to predict what to expect from the longest serving Prince of Wales and the first heir to the British throne to receive a university degree.
